![]() ![]() ![]() Honestly the toughest part was getting the tiny Airport antenna cable plugged back in! Based on the OWC video I was concerned it would be difficult, but it was much easier than expected. So I snagged a 10-core off Ebay and did the swap today. I had been eying up a used 10-core 3.0 GHz Xeon E5-2690v2 on OWC Mac Sales for a while, but in looking on Ebay found the same used CPU could be had for a third the price. Since then I've replaced the OS with VMware ESXi 6.7 and virtualized the Plex server among other things, but always wanted to upgrade the CPU to something with more cores. A few years ago I replaced my mid-2011 dual core i5 2.5 GHz Mac mini with a 2013 Mac Pro with a 4-core 3.7 GHz Xeon E5-1620v2 to be used primarily as my Plex server.
